History of Video Game Systems: Knowing About What Started it All

History of Video Game Systems: Knowing About What Started it All

Video games have come a long way in terms of graphics and sound technology. Although video games didn’t exist a hundred years ago, the enhancement in graphics and sound technology revolutionized on what people think of video games today.

Unlike what you see in video games today that has amazing 3D and realistic graphics and sounds, it all started out with a video game called the Computer Space. This video game was released by Nutting Associates in 1970 and was the first coin-operated arcade video game.

In 1972, the Odyssey 100 video game system was introduced. This particular video game can be attached to a standard television to display the graphics and play the game. In the same year, Atari launched Pong. This is a coin operated machine and is played with two short vertical lines that you move up and down to avoid letting the “ball” pass.

The real video game revolution began in the late 70’s. Atari introduced the Video Computer System or the VCS (renamed Atari 2600 later). This system uses cartridges and delivered colored graphics and sounds through the television. The game was played using a joystick or paddles.

The Atari 2600 were the most popular gaming systems ever invented in its time. The system was always in demand that retail stores constantly ran out of stock, especially on the holidays.

However, in early 80’s, more and more video game manufacturers began coming out. An example would be Nintendo. Nintendo’s Family Computer was a worldwide success and sold over 500,000 units all over the world for a short period of two months. In 1985, Nintendo released a similar system in the United States called the Nintendo Entertainment System.

With the release of the Nintendo Entertainment System in the US, it also released the Super Mario Bros. video game that was a total hit. The Super Mario Bros. game reportedly had a worldwide sale amounting up to 40.24 million dollars and was declared as the best-selling game of all time.

In the late 80’s more and more video game manufacturers began releasing their latest video game systems. Sega Enterprises released the Genesis home video game system in the US and was a total hit. It generated sales amounting up to 14 million dollars.

In 1995, Sony Electronics released the 32-bit CD-ROM game system called the PlayStation in the US. It was a phenomenal hit and this was the beginning of the Sony PlayStation legacy.

The popularity of Sony PlayStation paved the way to more advanced graphics system and other video gaming systems manufacturers began to follow suit. The CD-ROM technology to be integrated in a video game system is now the most popular way to play a video game.

Sega Enterprises and Nintendo followed with a similar concept of using a CD-ROM to play its games instead of using cartridges.

Sega released the Dreamcast video game system in Japan in 1998 with features like a 200 MHz processor, 12X speed 1 Gigabyte CD-ROM drive and a 56 kbps modem. However, it arrived too late to threaten the Nintendo 64 and the much anticipated PlayStation 2.

In the year 2000, PlayStation released the PlayStation 2 with great success. About 1 million units were shipped from Japan on the first weekend and have been one of the most popular video game systems ever released since Atari.

Other companies also followed. Nintendo released the GameCube video game system and Microsoft released the Xbox game system in the United States. The Xbox had features that no other gaming system had. It had an 8 Gigabyte hard drive, 733 MHz Pentium III Processor and a 250MHz nVidia graphics coprocessor. Also, it was capable of being connected into a broadband internet connection.

In 2005 Microsoft launched the Xbox 360 video game system in the United States. It has a wireless controller, headset and a 20 Gigabyte hard drive.

As you can see, video game systems are rapidly advancing in graphics and sound technology. You can only wait and see what Sony, PlayStation, Nintendo and other video game system manufacturers can think of next in the near future. Sony even announced the release of the much anticipated PlayStation 3 on mid November 2006 in North America.

Pros And Cons Of Buying A Big Screen TV

Pros And Cons Of Buying A Big Screen TV

Nowadays, there are many big brands making Big Screen TV’s which are very popular everywhere. Big Screen TV like high-quality 5.1-channel surround sound systems would definitely pull you into the movie action or TV show’s story line just the way big movie theater screens and sound systems do. But at the same time sometimes a too-large TV can really overpower a room. To get the right big-screen TV for your needs, you’ll need to consider screen size, the display technology, your budget, and also the viewing preferences. TV screens are being made much bigger, so that they are similar in shape to movie screens and the picture quality is being improved by technical tricks so that new projection sets will provide superior images even from standard broadcasts and videotapes.

While buying a big screen TV for your home it is important that you choose the screen size according to your room size. Your seating distance will determine your sense of picture clarity and detail as well as the quality of the viewing experience.

Big Screen TV’s are available in both Plasma and LCD. Plasma screens use a matrix of tiny gas plasma cells charged by precise electrical voltages to create a picture. LCD-Liquid Crystal Display screens are in layman’s terms sandwiches made up of liquid crystal pushed in the space between two glass plates. Images are created by varying the amount electrical charge applied to the crystals.

Each technology has its strengths and weaknesses. For home entertainment, plasma TV screens have a slight edge over LCD TV’s that’s because plasma TV screens can display blacks more ac-curately than LCD TV screens thus they give better contrast and detail in dark-colored television or movie scenes. In LCD technology a backlight shines through the LCD layer which makes it harder for it to achieve true blacks because there is always some light leakage from between pixels.

These cool plasma and LCD flat panels which are only a few inches thick are alluring, but budget, screen size, and your need for optimal HDTV clarity are big factors you must consider. You may have to pay as high as $8,000 USD in order to get full HDTV resolution on a plasma panel which would mean getting a 50-inch diagonal screen but if you are willing to compromise with the flat panel and accept a more conventional box you can get full HDTV resolution for a fraction of that amount. However if you still like the flat panel and can do with a good but not true HD picture quality, you can save a lot of money on a smaller LCD or plasma display.

So, folks set your budget, decide on what you want and get the perfect Big Screen TV for your home. Invite your friends and enjoy the next game with loud cheers and drinks!!!

1st Step to Manifesting Life

1st Step to Manifesting Life

Do you know at least one person that seems to make the most of out every situation? Someone who has great success at the act of manifestation (the act or product of bringing about change through the direction of consciousness)?

You may even have felt a little jealous of the person because it appears they have everything, seemingly getting these things with minimal effort as though they were born ‘lucky’. Well, it is probably time you understand that the power of manifestation lies within each of us and it is up to you to learn more about it.

Attracting abundance is knowledge. Just like any other skill people have, manifesting is no different. Skills like playing a musical instrument or making gourmet meals require time and commitment to learn and practice. So does the skill of manifesting. How good you get, depends on how well you learn the skill and how well you apply it.

Even though some of us are better at certain skills, that doesn’t mean the rest of us, with practice, can’t improve or even surpass the talent expressed by another. Some seem to have learned it so well that they often times don’t even realize how they do it. Manifesting abundance now comes to them so readily it appears ‘natural’ just as a well trained pianist seems to play the piano without thought or effort. They learn to believe whole-heartedly that they simply deserve something; it is now part of their reality. Those are the ones that seem to be born ‘lucky’. Luck is not how they got there!

So, how can you start on your journey towards manifesting great things for yourself and those you love? Here is the first step – a basic understanding of the ‘Law of Attraction’.

Gaining a good understanding of how the “law of attraction” works is the first step in bringing abundance into your life. You can create our own reality. You can attract riches, opportunities and happiness, etc., in our life when you learn to focus or attract yourself on them. In order to do this, you must learn to believe and think in a positive way towards those things you seek. You probably also know at least one person (hopefully not you!), who dwells on the negative and truly will focus on having less. They are attracted to ‘less’ not ‘having more’. When you focus on “I hate my current employment” then you will never notice the aspects of your employment that might be satisfying. You must understand that just wanting something isn’t going to bring that to you if you continue to focus on the ‘not having’ of that something. You may have personally experienced that “not having” attitude and learned that it blocked your true desires.

You must learn to focus on a particular item or scenario rather than on vague goals like ‘more cash’ or ‘winning money’. Focusing on winning the lottery, for example, is a fruitless event. Although, through luck, some win lotteries, focusing on winning the lottery is kind of like focusing on “not having.” Oddly enough, many who focus on winning naturally dream of what they could do to help others, even though many of those dreams could actually already be done with their current incomes on a smaller scale, but they don’t. This is probably because they focus on what they perceive as their ‘not having’ or ‘having so little’. With this attitude they end up believing that those dreams are only possible by winning the lottery. They are literally afraid to act on their dreams for fear that they do not currently ‘have enough’ to offer.

For example, I know several decently paid professionals that repeatedly tell me that they too would really love to sponsor a foster child in another country and they would if they won the lottery. They are afraid that they cannot currently afford $1 a day as that might leave them short of cash in case of an emergency like an unexpected auto repair. Their focus is on “not enough” rather than being focused on sponsoring a needy child. When they are focused on “not enough” it won’t ever matter how much money they have, it will never be enough.

Just talking about sponsoring a child brought their fears out into the open. It would be great if they could trust that helping a needy third world child would not put them at financial risk.

So what I would tell these professionals, who would like to sponsor a child but feel they just cannot, is that they focus on visualizing a starving child being fed by their contribution and perhaps a wonderful letter from that child, complete with a photo to be proudly placed along side other family pictures. This would be a positive image/thought to get that picture to become a reality. Perhaps talk it over with the rest of the family to see what they could do without to create that $1 a day. This is the first step in learning how to manifest their lives. This same first step will work for all aspects of life from healthy, happy relationships to personal wealth.

Is it your turn to make the most of out every situation? Is it your turn for others to see you as ‘lucky’? Does your lack of ability to manifest life leave your soul wounded or lacking? Would you like to learn all the steps to manifest life? You deserve it and it is time to take action.

The Vast Political Landscape Of Sports

The Vast Political Landscape Of Sports

Politics directly related with economic issues, influence the course of action one country might choose against another and certainly affect the role of sports, since they are a vital part of a nation’s role in the global scene. Through boycotting sports events or using athletes for propaganda purposes, individual countries have tried over past practices to impose their political views and affect the world’s understanding. But especially because of the immense public’s interest in international athletic events, influencing political views and gaining valuable exchange power becomes an important issue on a nation’s sport agenda, while the danger of engagement in ‘country-battles’ in the international relations field, does not always count as a serious disadvantage.

At the same time, the commercialism that accompanies spectator sports gradually engulfs both amateur and professional events. By the late 20th century, the televising of athletic events had made sports as the ‘new’ big business. On the other hand, the expanding public concern on personal physical health led to mass participation, not necessarily competitive, in sports like running, hiking, cycling, martial arts, and gymnastics. Athletic activity by women expanded, especially after political action in the 1960s and 1970s opening close doors of the past to many forms of competition and an increased share of public funding for sports.

Private interests for profit and publicity work alongside with more global issues like economic integration and free trade, and as they have already proved they will surely continue to affect sports future role. Countries use sports either to impose their economic power over others, or to elevate their current one. Due to sports’ great costs, governments engage themselves in promoting and supporting these economic needs by authorising special public monetary programs or by seeking private financing (lecture notes). Corporate sponsorships are today a reality, as companies spend about $6 billion annually sponsoring activities ranging from the Olympic Games to the World Cup. The popularity of sponsored events is increasing due to several reasons. They enhance the reputation and image of the sponsor, they provide a focal point for marketing efforts and sales campaigns, and they generate publicity and media coverage. More cost-effective than advertising, sponsorships include prestige and at times target a worldwide audience. Broadcasting rights, ticket sales, merchandising, and sponsorships, are the main reasons of sport’s unique role for a country’s strategy.

Historically proven, sport has acted as a liaison between nations and contributed to their evolution. Beginning with the sociological, psychological and physiological aspects of the human nature, sport has gained the praise of people worldwide, as it has contributed to their well being. Group-oriented, since in order to be a winner one has to compete, sport brings people closer together and generates team-spirit along with mind and physical awareness. Moreover, living today in the information age, sport experts believe that sport is greatly influenced by the actions of individual nations, as well as by the international trends that influence the world economy. As sport is always a spectacle, sport athletes have become professional ambassadors that through them their country’s culture is promoted and their achievements contribute to its fame. Sports in this global society has become lately an issue of great concern and studies worldwide provide valuable information about the political, geographical, economic, cultural, social, aesthetic and historical aspects of sport that will ‘shape’ its future role.

GM Plans to Keep Saab, Hummer

GM Plans to Keep Saab, Hummer

General Motors is going through a cataclysmic change, one that will certainly pull the company out of its current financial plight or result in bankruptcy, even the possible dissolution of the company. In a quest to right the listing ship, the company is divesting itself of several brands including its share of Isuzu, Fuji Heavy Industries [Subaru], and others. As far as its wholly owned brands, speculation has been rife that one, two, maybe even three brands might be discontinued or sold. Two of the most talked about makes for possible divestment are Hummer – the niche military-style SUV brand – and Saab – the Swedish automaker. Although both brands are currently fairly weak, GM has maintained that the two makes will not only survive, but receive fresh product and backing. Let’s take a look at two of GM’s most vulnerable brands and what the company may have in store for each one.

Saab — Saab enthusiasts have been highly disappointed ever since General Motors snapped up the Swedish automaker back during the early 1990s. Admirer’s hopes that the brand would receive some deep pocket support haven’t quite worked out the way many would have wanted it to. Instead, the Saab brand is simply a shell of its former self with most models based on other automaker’s platforms including the Subaru inspired 9-2x and the GMC inspired 9-7x.

Saab’s future more than likely rests with Opel, GM’s big European brand based in Germany. Future production of some Saab cars is likely to go to Germany with rebadged Opels being sold as Saabs. For the long term, look for every single Saab model to based on someone else’s technology, effectively ending what was once a unique Swedish brand.

Hummer — Desert Storm gave rise to the Humvee and soon after the war ended, the AM General company began to produce civilian versions of its military vehicle to fulfill consumer demand. By the late 1990s, General Motors bought out the rights to the Hummer name, but GM still relies on AM General to produce the two largest models, while building the H3 itself.

Despite intentionally low sales, the Hummer name has managed to thrive. Celebrities, financial moguls, and everyday citizens have been attracted to the brand which has given GM a bit of a “halo” effect. With gas prices surging, demand will certainly drop for the larger Hummers, but GM may counter that with stronger emphasis on the H3 and the development of the H4, a vehicle reportedly much like the compact Jeep Wrangler.

Of course, not everyone is happy with GM’s plans with the two brands, but then again these aren’t normal times for the struggling automaker. In time, GM’s plans may be refined and Saab could still be sold, especially if Swedish interests step forward. In all, GM is attempting to right its listing ship without peeling off too many brands. Will it work? That is hard to say, but if you are a fan of the GM you certainly hope that it will.

Great Kitesurfing Videos

Great Kitesurfing Videos

Kitesurfing is a spectacular sport. Riders and audiences alike enjoy watching the players as they ride and jump. But while kitesurfing videos continue to impress those who watch it, there are also some kitesurfing videos which show the dark side – the fall, break and accidents that sometimes happen along the way.

Kitesurfing is not as easy as it appears on video. Every ride requires hard work and determination. How he was able to perfect his move depends on the rider, and the amount and degree of training that he received.

There are two ways to train for the sport. One is by taking kitesurfing courses. Here you have limitless choices. If you live in some coastal area, or if there are large lagoons and lakes in your place, with winds blowing steadily against it, then you’re in luck. Chances are, there’s a kitesurfing school or spot in your area.

To know details of any school, you can check the location over the internet. You’ll be surprised at the number of schools in your area. If you can’t find one in your area, you can be on vacation in some tropical island, where kitesurfing schools also abound. This indicates how popular the sport has become not only in the US but in most parts of the world.

Another way of learning is through self-help. Because of its gaining popularity, more and more people are learning the sport on their own. While this method seems difficult, since there is no one to personally teach you, there are many sources of information that a budding rider can read. One of these is through instructional videos.

Like websites, there are tons of instructional videos available in the market today. Which video to buy would have to depend on you. Some DVDs give step by step instructions while others present the topic in a travelogue manner, to make it more interesting.

These are two sources of kitesurfing videos – internet and sports shops. Try keying in the word kitesurfing in your search engine, and you will find hundreds of websites dedicated to the sport the world over. As you browse through these sites, you will see the different features that they post.

Each of these websites contains videos of some sort – exhibitions, instructions, and on some instances, accidents. While these may encourage others to try the sport, there are some who find it discouraging. But I guess the purpose is not to discourage. It is only to make people aware of the dangers that this sport may bring, and that everyone must observe the safety rules that this sport entails.

As years passed, and as the popularity of the sport spread, producers and kitesurfers are releasing better, more dynamic and glossy videos. With new technology, video cameras take better, more precise shots. Worth mentioning is the editing aspect of these videos. Advances in technology allow better editing and dubbing. So aside from just the graphic parts of the video, music is sometimes included to make it more interesting.

There are many kitesurfing videos that you can watch. Whether wave riding or freestyle, there is one to inspire you and teach you as you learn this new sport. Here’s a word of caution though.

Don’t try to do freestyling or other more difficult stunts for the first time without the help of an expert.

Stress Relief Music To Unwind

Stress Relief Music To Unwind

Why do we love music so much? Among other things, we have always felt that music enabled us to relax after a hard days work. Just sit back and feel comfortable in a recliner or relax while going to the office in the morning. Yes, music has great relaxing effect on the human body and mind. And now experts are also agreeing. They say that music is great for stress relief, it relaxes us and eases the nerves. Stress relief music works for all, though not in the same way.

The hectic lifestyle that we all lead today has started to cost all of us dearly. The fact is, humans are not biologically tuned to the lifestyle that we are all leading today. The great level of stress that we have to go through has only been witnessed for the last 30 or 40 years. So since our bodies are not used to this, acute stress can cause it harm and even lead to physical and mental problems. But stress relief music can be a solution.

How do stress relief music work

There are many theories on this. Do not be surprised if you hear someone say that stress relief music reminds the human mind of a mother’s heartbeat while at the womb. But there are many who do not agree to this view. But on one aspect almost everyone agrees – stress relief music does create a deep impact on the subconscious mind of most people and calms them down.

But the same kind of music may not have the same effect on different people. So while using stress relief music, it becomes necessary to find the type of music that will work for the individual concerned. The wrong stress relief music type may end up actually causing more harm than good. The important thing is to understand what the person likes, his preferences and then play the type of music that will work.

Some experts feel that music, slower than the natural heart beat of a person, which is 72 beats a minute works well as stress relief music. Music with rhythms that repeat and sound monotonous also can calm the nerves.

Music can be used not only to calm a person down, but also to bring him out of a lull and make him active. Faster rhythms and music with beats can effectively make a person more active while the going is slow.

Stress relief music is emerging as a popular way to distress. Though we listen to some form of music almost daily, but when we do it consciously and listen to slower and more monotonous music, it can relax us and remove the stress from our bodies.

Vintage Posters vs. Contemporary Art

Every great work of art has two faces, one toward its own time and one toward the future, toward eternity ~Daniel Barenboim~

Any work of art is priceless. However, art ,too, has many varieties and each variety has its own fascinating past and a hopeful present. Take for instance vintage poster and contemporary art. Both are varied form of art and have their own niche appreciators. However, both are quite unlike each other.

Vintage poster as an art form has its roots in Paris, France. Jules Cheret is credited to have created the first color poster back in 1869. Later, other French artists too started creating posters and soon this art spread beyond Europe.

But what are vintage posters. The International Vintage Poster Dealers Association defines vintage poster as “A vintage poster is an original poster created for a commercial client, to be placed in the public view to promote a product or service; sporting or entertainment events; political or social issues, travel & transportation, etc. A vintage poster has been produced in the time limited to the original project.”

Thus, posters were originally created as a means of carrying promotional message to the common man. However, with the passage of time these posters became rare and ultimately are now referred as vintage posters.

Contemporary art, on the other hand has been in existence for a very short time. Contemporary art began to take shape in the late 20th century and the early 21st century, at a time when abstract expressionism had started fading. Artists took to new style of art such as Dadaism, wherein the artists tried to capture absurdity and unpredictability in their creations. The other styles included pop art wherein the artists used common images to depict abstract relationships; op art wherein the artists created visual effects such as afterimages and trompe-l’oeil using colors and the hugely popular minimalism wherein they tried to project an object as itself and strip its expressive content by using flat colors etc.

If we compare both vintage posters and contemporary art, then the latter definitely presents itself with more variety. However, the subjects covered by vintage posters are more common, in the sense, they relate to our every day life. For instance, you can get vintage poster on topics such as war and military, liquor and beverages, entertainment and travel.

Most of the images displayed in the vintage poster are such that a common man can easily relate to them. However, those who do not have a sound understanding may find contemporary art a little difficult to understand.

Thus, vintage posters and contemporary art are two very different forms of art. But as the saying goes ‘Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder’ and so your preference is likely to be governed by your likes and dislikes.
